We have a TeamSpeak server for voice chatting and text/typing chat. I do not want to add additional stress on the web server by adding a web chat. That would be a pain in the ass for requests also. It would likely result in many accidental fail2ban banned users
So the answer is:This has already been proposed and has been denied

I'm quoting asphyxia's reply
There also exists an IRC channel Where R4P3 Users can join and chat

Now it's been upgraded to 15. Thanks for that but still not a shoutbox! So the answer is:
We have an IRC channel which you get automatically kicked from because it's on a network its not allowed to be
And we have a TeamSpeak server with a max of ten slots.
That's not close to the experience one can have from a shoutbox.
We're fairly anti-plugin about core/critical things (our forum is very essential). I could show you tens of examples where someone applies a plugin to something and I myself have first-hand experience with seeing plugins ruin the security/stability of something. If we had a chat, the security is right away possibly at-risk (would need to thoroughly check over the source) which some chat plugins can be thousands of lines and usually are, people tend to discuss things inside of a chat environment which eventually gets purged (wiped clean) and this takes away from forum permanent content, the resources a more advanced shoutbox or basically web-based instant messenger/IRC/chat takes up is pretty heavy especially running alongside a forum. A shoutbox works perfect for a gaming clan. I just do not see an appropriate application here. TeamSpeak 3 is our best public communications option. If someone wants a Mumble or something else, that may be considered. We don't like to run a bunch of stuff together on one main server. Think of each service/plugin as an additional door into your home. You wouldn't build a house with 50 entrances, that would be scary to live in.Now it's been upgraded to 15. Thanks for that but still not a shoutbox!
Same, but what's the use of the R4P3 TeamSpeak 3 server if we can message through shoutbox... Might as well get a hotline and a live chat on the website.I rly like the idear about a shoutbox.
