It's not hiding data indeed, I tested this. The users checking out will see -1 as ping.

It's not the client that fixes it. It's the server.

Try it on a server running on version <= 3.0.11.4 and it'll work

Also, if you still want to know the IP, check your log or use the Extended Info Plugin
